SOME "TIPS" ABOUT CUTTING
Saw Tooth "Tip" Configuration
FLAT TOP GRIND (FTG) flat top "chisel" teeth are generally used on "ripping" type saw blades. They work great for soft and hard woods alike and are quite effective at removing material fast. Less emphasis is placed on splintering and chipping because these are not as prominent when ripping with the grain. Flat top teeth can also be used with other tooth designs to "rake" material out of the cut.

ALTERNATING TOP BEVEL (ATB) this tooth design means that the carbide alternates between a right and left hand bevel. Also corresponding tooth face shears can be added to varying degrees to provide a knife like edge on the high cutting side. These saw blades are great for cross-cutting solid woods and veneered plywoods. Higher tooth counts can provide for a finer cut. Also this design can be used on rip saw blades because it helps the saw blade to not follow the grain of the wood.

TRIPLE CHIP GRIND (TCG) This tooth design alternates a hogging tooth with a chisel tooth. This lets the saw blade ease smoothly into the cut with less chipping than a FTG, while maintaining much of the saw blade life. This is a great saw blade for cutting really hard materials like MDF, plastics, laminates and non-ferrous metals. These are high production saw blades and will keep their edge longer than ATB with almost as good cut quality.

COMBINATION (LRLRS) This is kind of a generic term and can have many applications. L=left, R=Right, S=Straight, Raker. This tooth design can be used on combination Rip and Crosscut saw blades by adding an enlarged gullet after the Raker tip or can be used on precision trim saw blades with enhanced face shears and top bevels for extremely smooth chip-free multi-use cutting.

HIGH ALTERNATING TOP BEVEL (HATB) like the name implies this design is similar to the ATB with alternating top bevels, and face shears, except the bevels are increased and enhanced. This design can provide extra fine crosscutting and excel at cutting materials that are likely to chip. The "extreme knife like cutting edge" is the perfect saw blade for slicing through 2 sided melamine and veneered laminates with a super clean edge on both sides of the cut. Although no blade can 100% eliminate fine chipping on the exit cut with unsupported material, this blade will come as close as mechanically possible.

CONICAL (RA ) Conic scoring blades are designed to work in tandem with our panel saw blades. By adjusting the depth of the score, the width of the cut can be adjusted to just slightly wider than the main panel saw blade This combination is commonly used on double sided melamine and veneered plywoods that chip or fur easily.
Choosing the right "Hook"
or "Rake angle
CHOOSING THE RIGHT HOOK ANGLE

can also greatly affect the cutting characteristics of a saw blade. One thing to remember with hook angles is there are "no free lunches". When you enhance one aspect of performance, you'll usually do it to the detriment of another cut quality. An easy way of explaining is:

High Hook (20*or +)=Grabbing Material and Slicing, Stays Sharp Longer, May Tear Out More

Low to Neg. Hook (5*or -) Pushes Material Away and Scrapes, Dulls Quicker, Smoother Chip Free Cutting

Medium Hook (10-15*) Jack of all Trades, General Purpose

HOW IT GETS FUN is when you combine hook angles with the cutting characteristics of saw tooth config-urations, specialty long lasting carbides, high performance tool bodies and your on your way to some great quality production!
